End of Year Service

We held our end of year service and celebration this week. We wished our two sixth class pupils best of luck as they graduate from the school. There were plenty of surprises for them including special art, videos and a small token of appreciation for all they have contributed to the school. The pupils enjoyed chicken nuggets, sausages and chips for lunch and played on the bouncy castles after our service.

Europe Flag and Write a book Award

Congratulations to the pupils for achieving the Blue Star Programme Europe Flag and the Write a Book project award. We had one overall winner and two runners up. The pupils worked very hard on their projects and books all through the year. Congratulations again,

Sports Day

It was a lovely day for a Sports day. The children enjoyed three-legged races, egg and spoon races, hurling skills session, sack races, parachute games, hula hooping, relay races and lots more. We enjoyed our snacks on the picnic tables. The ice cream and cold drinks were very welcome. Well Done to all the pupils.

European Flag Project

The Senior Room are participating in the Blue Star programme this year. They are learning about the history, geography, culture and institutions of Europe. We have completed projects, sampled food from different European countries, constructed buildings from all over Europe, studied European Artists and completed Kahoot quizzes.  In November, we were very lucky to receive European goodie bags from Ballinasloe Library. This week, the pupils wrote letters to our MEPs inviting them of a virtual visit of our school.  At the end of the project, the school hopes to be awarded with a certificate and a European Flag.

Christmas Activities

The pupils were busy decorating the classrooms for Christmas this month. We designed and painted windows, wrapped doors, made Christmas decorations and much more.

Lego Coding

This week, the pupils were busy building and coding a Lego Boost car and robot for Maths week. They worked cooperatively following step by step directions on the iPads and then were given time to explore coding the two builds and then on Friday we set up a circuit. The pupils had to create a string of code to navigate ‘Robbo’ around. There were some bugs but the class were very good at using the code to create angles and problem solving any problems that arose.

Green-Schools

The school received our Green Flag Award for our Water theme project. The Senior Room pupils attended a virtual awards ceremony with special guests and surprises on Thursday 14th of October. The classes have worked making posters, reading the water meters, checking for leaks, calculating water usage, learning about the importance of water and how to conserve it at home. Well Done to the Green-Schools committee and all the pupils for their hard work.

Rectory Garden

Our classes have been very busy this year in the Rectory Garden and the Climate Action Park. They harvested strawberries and tomatoes and als0 helped bag other fruit and vegetables for the Harvest Celebration. The pupils in the Senior Room brought a selection of their harvest down to John Burke’s shop. We visited the Climate Action Park for Muddy Church with Revered John.
